Walter van Beek

Walter van Beek is an emeritus professor known for his anthropological work, particularly among the Dogon people, and for serving as the President of the World Draughts and Checkers Federation (FMJD) for over a decade. He has held academic positions at Utrecht University and Tilburg University (where he was Chair of Anthropology of Religion), and is currently a Senior Researcher at the African Studies Centre Leiden. Van Beek is also noted for his research on LDS Mormonism in Europe and has contributed to academic cooperation between the Netherlands and South Africa via the SANPAD program. His work includes studies of witchcraft accusations and holy places in South Africa.
