Simo Parpola

Academic

Simo Parpola is a Finnish Assyriologist, Professor emeritus at the University of Helsinki, and Editor-in-Chief of the State Archives of Assyria (SAA) series. He served as Director of the Neo-Assyrian Text Corpus Project, and is known for his research on Assyrian language, culture, and religion, including "The Assyrian Tree of Life". Parpola collaborated with Martti Nissinen on Centre of Excellence applications and worked under Karlheinz Deller at the University of Heidelberg.
