Frederick Law Olmsted

Frederick Law Olmsted was the co-designer of Central Park, serving as Director and later Commissioner in the 1850s and 1860s. He also served as Executive Secretary for the U.S. Sanitary Commission during the Civil War. Olmsted collaborated with Calvert Vaux on Central Park and with Daniel Burnham on the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, and his work in Yosemite led to landmark conservation principles, although his initial report was suppressed.
