Aratus

Historical Figure

Aratus of Soli was a Greek didactic poet known primarily for his hexameter poem *Phenomena*, a verse setting of a lost work by Eudoxus describing constellations and celestial phenomena, as well as the related *Diosemeia*. He studied in Athens, imbibed Stoicism from Zeno, and was associated with the court of Antigonus Gonatas. Aratus reworked Hesiod's goddess Dike into a cosmic figure, mediating between poetry, myth, philosophy, and astronomy. His work was later quoted by a New Testament author, highlighting its influence beyond its immediate context.
