Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Alfred, Lord Tennyson was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom from 1850 until his death, the longest tenure of any laureate. He was a student at Trinity College, Cambridge from 1827-1831, and became a member of the Apostles Club there. Tennyson's closest friend and literary influence was Arthur Henry Hallam, who inspired *In Memoriam A.H.H.*, and he was favored by Queen Victoria, who found comfort in his poetry after Prince Albert's death.
